Commerical License

Blackbird is available under a variety of licensing models, but most importantly under commercial terms and with professional support. Some parts of Blackbird, in the form of sub-sections of an old version of MIPSPro, are available under the GNU Public License (GPL), in the Pro64, Open64 and Open Research Compiler (ORC). A commercial license helps avoid the complexities of the GPL. The GPL not only requires that any programs licensed under it be freely distributed in source form, but also that any modifications made to the software, or any other software derived from it, are themselves automatically covered by the GPL. Blackbird's commercial license enables private investment in customization and enhancement, without having to hand over the value of such work to the public at large (including competitors).
